Feed your brain with “Food for Thought”
“Food for thought”…, you’ve heard the saying, and so have I. So I hope it is safe to assume that we both know the phrase refers to a subject to be “chewed on”, like food. Okay, at this point you may already be wondering, why in the world would I write a blog post about a cliche… good question. Well the answer is, I’m not! I don’t want to tell you about Food for Thought, but rather food and thoughts!
This Tuesday, July 25, 2017, kicks off the new conversation series called “Food for Thought”. I know, that was a shocker right? The gathering will be held from 5:30pm-6:30pm every week at BU Central in the George Sherman Union. Each week, a new topic will be discussed with different faculty members from various departments of our University.
The first edition of Food for Thought will feature Professor Hutch Hutchinson from the Questrom School of Business. He will lead the conversation about history, specifically why it matters, why we protect it, and the different mediums used to teach it.
I know what this is starting to sound like… a talk about history, led by a professor… yawn! But I promise you it is much more than that. For starters, the conversation is completely informal. You can come whenever you want, dressed however you want. The goal of this series is to bring the BU Summer community together by engaging in meaningful discussion outside of the classroom or work area. .We will take time to digest and breakdown different topics ranging from music, to science and technology.
During the summer, it is easy to hang out with the same people and develop a fixed weekly schedule; wake up, breakfast, class, sleep, repeat. Food for Thought is a yummy way to liven up your Tuesday. If you have plans with your friends, bring them with you. Or if you are feeling that you don’t know many people staying this summer, then come out as well.
Whether you’re a talker, or a listener, a professor, or a student, it does not matter. All that matters is you come and enjoy yourself. Food for Thought is a time to talk and get to know each other better. It is a safe space to share your personal opinions and reflect on current events and ideas. It is also a time to eat! Who doesn’t love free snacks?
So bring a friend, bring your ideas, and of course, bring your appetite.
