Hope, Despair and the Blues – MLK Day Commemoration 2017

Join us on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 2pm for Boston University’s annual commemoration of the life of alumnus Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This event will take place in Metcalf Hall in the George Sherman Union (775 Commonwealth Avenue.)

This year’s event, Hope, Despair and the Blues, features music of the Sacred Concerts of Duke Ellington performed by Boston University’s Big Band and the Inner Strength Gospel Choir with conductor, composer and scholar Randall Keith Horton. Mr. Horton was a composing and conducting assistant for Duke Ellington.

We will also feature remarks by College of Fine Arts professor and playwright Kirsten Greenidge and Harry Lennix of The Blacklist. Other speakers and performers include University Provost Jean Morrison, Professor Victor Coelho (College of Fine Arts), Chloe Swindler (College of Fine Arts) and the Allegrettos.
