Beauty on Sunday
What’s beautiful? More than 150 students pulled the neighborhood together – professors, folk from Boston, soldiers in Haiti making sure the humanitarian investments work, artists in Haiti, even the Governor – to think about our best human selves. Beautiful. Necessary. A day-long event that dropped knowledge on me about Haiti. All day, our students made the case for why I must develop a forward-looking relationship with people in a place where I have never physically visited and for people I do not know. (And, a plea to keep the people of Chile, and all those who suffer around the world, in my thoughts; my heart; and, my efforts to be of help.) A muse kicked it with me, and I am smitten.
The beauty here is that you came together – no fighting; very little, if any, drama – with a purpose. What’s next? Let’s get together, again. to think about suffering in the world – in Chile, Rwanda, Iran, and in the cities throughout America – and, about the big issues that we can resolve. Folk coming together to change the world is beautiful. This was a step, next time let’s get closer.
Nice work, but no congratulations needed — this is what we’re supposed to do. I can’t wait to see what you can do the next time you come together.
Peace.
