Fear of a Black President or A Witch Hunt?
Oh no, she didn’t! She didn’t want to, but she went there – in one of the big national newspapers, one columnist called us out. That animosity and certain frequent criticism of President O is because he’s a black guy in charge. Her column started a flood of commentary within big media. Even former President Jimmy Carter jumped in:
O has always been reluctant to jump into this conversation – during his campaign and now – but he had to see this coming? We all saw this behavior and argument coming — right?
Recently, the Dems and the Republicans had it out on this issue and ended up name calling, too. Congress spent its precious time rebuking and witch hunting. Some folk say all this conversation is unfair. That certain people have radicalized American politics by raising this issue – that any criticism of President O will be perceived as racist. That we need a conversation about the activities of the racial elephant in the society (and the rooms of the White House), but that these accusations, denials, and antics are not helping.
Today, during Coffee and Conversation, let’s talk about whether are not we’re scared of the black guy or searching for scapegoats when we’ve got more important things to figure out. I’ll be at the Howard Thurman Center, today, from 3-5 p.m. with plenty of cookies and coffee – you bring your cup and your conversation game. See you later.
Peace.
