Reinvented Campus Community Spaces to Strengthen Connections

The following was sent to all students on the Charles River Campus on Thursday, March 18, 2021.

Dear Friends,

We are all still navigating pandemic burnout and challenging times. A change in the normal routine is essential to our spirit and maybe just what we need right now.

If you move around the Charles River Campus, you may notice new tents and seating areas are reshaping our outdoor spaces. These updated outdoor spaces – around the West Campus dormitories, at Towers and South, on the BU Beach, around the George Sherman Union, and on the College of Communication Lawn – are there for you. As the spaces continue to be set up into next week, please feel free to begin using them as soon as seating is available. We hope to see you sitting and relaxing, enjoying meals, doing your work, meeting up and connecting (and re-connecting) with classmates, acquaintances and friends.

These outdoor spaces will be available until the end of April – use them, often (while wearing your mask or face covering and maintaining 6 feet or 2 meters of physical distance), to simply relax, connect with others, or appreciate moments of delight and joy around you. We’ve created spaces, now, it’s your turn to make them places.

Be well,
Kenneth Elmore
Associate Provost and Dean of Students
