Student Spotlight: Sabrina Shih CAS’18
By Elizabeth Wong CGS’18
Meet Sabrina Shih! Sabrina is a freshman in CAS on the Pre-Med track, studying to double major in Biology and Economics. Before Sabrina made her decision to come to BU, she already loved the city because her mom studied ophthalmology right on Newbury Street. However, things have changed in the past few years and she enjoys exploring and finding hidden gems in every neighborhood.

Growing up, Sabrina has always been musically involved. In her second semester here at BU, she joined the BU Percussion Ensemble and plays the Marinba and Vivraphone. In addition to percussions, she knows how to play the piano and cello and is happy BU offers opportunities to continue practicing her passion for music.
Sabrina is also part of an intercollegiate club, Engineering without Boarders. In this BU chapter, the club focuses on fulfilling the water needs in a small community in Zambia, called Naluja, where its civilians are plagued with E.coli. The club works together to create a prototype of a water filtration system using gravel, sand, rocks, a layer of bacteria that will eat away the E.coli and provide a simple and effective way for everyone to have access to water.
Along with playing the music she loves, participating in an extracurricular club, Sabrina studies hard. She strives to “maintain a nice balance” in her life where she works really hard during the week so she can reward herself to go out and enjoy more adventures in the city on the weekend!
Fun fact: Sabrina never liked donuts until she tried donuts from Black Bird Donut on Tremont Street in the South End and now she can’t get enough of it!
