Student Spotlight; Jobelle Manuel, SAR ’18
by Elizabeth Wong, CGS ’18
Meet Jobelle Manuel! Jobelle is a freshman who just switched her declared major from biology to SAR’s Health Science. Jobelle thinks that “it’s popping up in this University! because we have the city at our feet.” With there being so much to do on campus, she never finds a moment where she’s bored. The thing she loves the most about BU is that people here are just cultured in so many different ways, when they come together it’s amazing how much you can learn from other one another.
Jobelle feels right at home here because she has created such a great family. She is a member of the BU Filipino Student Association where it’s like having over 50 brothers and sisters. They host family dinners every Wednesday night, general meetings every month, and lecture series every semester where influential Filipinos come to talk about their real life experiences with their Filipino-American culture.

Jobelle is also a member of the all-female acapella group, The Sweethearts, where they do many small gigs for the public; in Copley Place, Quincy Market, and Rosie’s Place (a nearby women’s homeless shelter). What she believes sets The Sweethearts apart from other acapellas is that they have more of a familial sisterly bond that helps them blend better as a group and helps they understand and pay more attention to the messages they convey. With their spring concert around the corner on April 17th she wants everyone to come!
Fun Fact: Jobelle was the dance captain for show choir throughout high school and always have and always will love to dance.
