Toss Us the Rock and a Groove

It’s about toe-tapping.

It’s about head-bobbing.

It’s about wanting to get up out of your chair and move your body just because you’re alive and the world is fat with possibilities—and because it just feels so good to swing.

I’ll renew the idea that a good sporting event is a mixer — I can see friends, meet new people, laugh as loud as I want, and even poke some serious fun. It’s music. It’s beautiful. It’s an experience – we make – with beats that come in at the right time.

Exhibitions are over and the real-deal games are on. Time for some hoops — not just for the women and men representing BU – so nice – on the court, but for the rest of us – the fans.
If you haven’t been to a game or if you just forgot, get ready to rock the house — dress up (costumes welcomed), dance, chant, hug, sigh, high-five, laugh, play the dozens, poke some fun, grab your sweetie or the edge of your seat, sing, jeer, strut, and be proud.

I know that players have to get pumped up before a game. So do I. Here’s my list of grooves that I drop before I walk in to the house (get’s me in the mood to watch some ball):

  • Give And Go – Girl Talk
  • Slam – Onyx
  • Soul Makossa – Manu Dibango
  • Still Not a Player – Big Punisher featuring Joe
  • Stick & Move – Christian McBride and Inside Straight
  • Don’t Stop…Planet Rock (Bass In the Planet Mix) – Afrika Bambaataa
  • Now Get Busy – Beastie Boys
  • No Diggity – Blackstreet
  • I Just Want to Be – Cameo
  • Everybody Dance (12″ Mix) – Chic
  • Basement Bhangra Anthem (feat. Wyclef Jean, Bikram Singh & Sunil Sehgal) – DJ Rekha
  • Lesson Three – Double Dee And Steinski
  • Party At Ground Zero – Fishbone
  • La Schmoove – FU-Schnickens
  • Knee Deep – George Clinton
  • Roc Boyz (MikeLove’s Nigerian Gangster remix) – Jay-Z feat. Fela Kuti

(That’s a list for adults only.)

The folks in Scarlet and White will be there to blow. Others will show us how to shake it, shake it, shake it. Still others are going to make us dance.  And Rhett always loves Scarlet. Let’s make sure we’re there to put the cap on the experience. Time for us – players, musicians, cheer squads, dancers, costumed characters, fans – to create something worthy of toe-tapping and head-bobbing.

Looking forward to seeing you at the parties — our women start the party on Friday; men “got next” a week later.

Peace.
