Halloween Checklist & Lovenote

IMG_3435

I want you to have all the fun you can stand – some of you will enjoy a four-day Halloween fest.  Whatever you do, have a plan for this weekend (and every weekend) – here’s my take on a plan to kick it in around the City:

Prep Up (the night before): Think about how you’ll stay safe. Who’s in your crew that you’ll kick it? How you going to watch your back with that costume on?  Know the well-lit, heavily traveled spots around campus and the City (you know you should stay out of alleyways and deserted parking lots – use bathrooms inside establishments); and, carful of those strange folks looking to run a scam.   cautious of strangers who approach you.

Also goes without saying, that you should check out all the safety stuff we keep online for you: general safety advice, campus safety, and updates on the Boston University Police site.

Make sure the mobile is charged and that you’ve got the right numbers listed, including a few cab and taxi companies.  (Do me a favor and make sure the BU Police Department info is in the mobile, too – bupolice@bu.edu; 617-353-2121, text a tip: 847411 Keyword BU.)

Now that you’ve thought about safety, time to put together a mixtape (you’ll need some groove music for when you’re getting decked out in your walking-around attire).  Here’s my suggested list:

  • I Put a Spell On You (feat. Joss Stone) – Jeff Beck
  • Yip Roc Heresy – Slim Gaillard And His Orchestra
  • Moon Dreams – Miles Davis
  • You Be Illin’ – Run-DMC
  • Ugly – Fishbone
  • Candy – Cameo
  • Outside Broadcast – The Clash
  • Way Down In the Hole – Domaje
  • Williams’ Blood (Aeroplane Remix) – Grace Jones
  • Night of the Living Baseheads – Public Enemy
  • Bad Things (Club Mix) – Jace Everett
  • Dawn of the Dreads – Arrested Development
  • Human Nature – Madonna
  • Hot-n-Fun (feat. Nelly Furtado) – N.E.R.D.

Stop by my office to let me see your costume and to exchange mixtape lists (I just gave you mine, let me see your list). Meet my staff and ask us to give you a dose of inspiration for the nights ahead.

Snap a pic of you and your pals stylin’ and profilin’ and send it to me at dos@bu.edu.  (I like surprises and to give prizes — rumor is a few best photos win stuff we all wish we could have.)

Size up and stop in at a few of the campus happenings — it gets pretty festive around here.

Finally, need a game layer in your life? I put up a gruesome BU-related SCVNGR trek that you can only play if you’re on campus.  (Download the SCVNGR app to your iPhone or Android now, and play the Ghosts of BU trek — we look back to the famous feet that once walked our halls – some of them could be actual ghosts, some of them just live in Hollywood.)  I also stashed some good loot and treats to go with this game.

Above all things, remember that I care about you. Use your head. Stay safe.

Peace.
