So the monster spiting oil into the Gulf wasn’t as large and troublesome as the ones that spew oil into waters in other parts of the world. Yipes! I’m still scared.

Monsters we create every day? Monsters feeding on my complicity?

No requirement that accountability be true; no standards and no priorities for our space, our money, and our cultures; no fault; the demand for cheap energy; and, ridiculous investments in companies we allow to be motivated solely by cash. Maybe we should just use it up and start again.

This Friday, during Coffee and Conversation, let’s talk about the Deepwater Horizon accident. What’s the deal? Did the last few months call us all out? People refusing to own up; economic night sweats; weak national leadership; acceptable corruption; and, the future of my oil use? Was this an environmental blip in search of real meaning and a little perspective? I’m willing to pay more – what’s the damage? How soon will we forget about anyway?

See you at the Howard Thurman Center. Friday, September 17. Three to 5 p.m. I’ll deliver cookies on compostable plates and you bring a cup for your coffee. Conversation encouraged. No explosions or messes allowed.

Peace.
