Topic: Stories in Sound: Composing Podcasts

Vandenberg, PhD is a Master Lecturer in Rhetoric in the College of General Studies, where she teaches in the Boston-London program.  She has made working with digital multimedia composition a central part of her teaching of rhetoric and composition and was the 2022 recipient of the Gitner Award for Innovation in Teaching with Technology. She is a long-time member of the General Education Committee as well as a BU Urbanist with the BU Initiative on Cities and publishes on the rhetoric of the built environment, Joan Didion, and style pedagogies.

In this talk I will cover offer a brief rationale for why you might consider incorporating podcast composition into your teaching, review a recent podcast assignment completed by my students, and offer an overview of concrete steps one can take to launch a podcast project, whether it is a low-production and small-stakes assignment or a high These projects might  range from "low-production" and small stakes assignments to high-production and more complex projects. I’ll conclude with suggestions for equipment and a consideration of possible challenges.
