Ernie Perez Appointed to Campus Technology Advisory Board
Ernie Perez, director of Digital Learning & Innovation (DL&I) Educational Technology team, was appointed to the position of Campus Technology (CT) Events Advisory Board member in October 2020.
“I was excited to be asked to participate in the Campus Technology advisory board,” says Perez. “Campus Technology has a history of producing timely content for EdTech and IT campus constituents and it will be my pleasure to continue to promote and advance the CT community.”
Campus Technology, a higher education IT news and information resource, hosted a series of distance learning summits in 2020 with plans to extend this focus into 2021. As an advisory board member, Perez, alongside over a dozen other higher education IT professionals, will weigh in on overall themes and topics for Campus Technology virtual summits; contribute ideas for editorial webinars, and identify trends in EdTech and IT.
“It is important to participate in these roles to ensure the right content is being delivered to campus IT professionals, whether for teaching and learning or campus infrastructure, it is crucial to have feedback and insights from university campus leadership on what is needed from the trenches,” Perez adds.
In addition to virtual summits, Campus Technology hosts numerous webinars and special events—all of which focus on various facets of technology in higher education.
“In our event planning for the coming year, I felt it was important to draw on the expertise of the higher ed community,” says Campus Technology Executive Editor Rhea Kelly. “So our Events Advisory Board will be a valuable sounding board to help us develop the best possible programming.”
Perez and Kelly are no strangers to collaboration. Early 2020, Campus Technology featured Perez in the publication’s EdTech Trends to Watch 2020 coverage.
“I worked with Ernie at the beginning of this year…and I appreciated his thoughtful commentary and insights,” Kelly says. “For the board, I wanted to bring together people from a variety of institutions, in a variety of technology roles, who are active and engaged in the higher ed IT community. Ernie was a great fit.”
Perez was named Director of Educational Technology with Boston University’s Office of Digital Learning & Innovation in September 2019. As director, Perez plays a leading role in the visioning, management, selection, and deployment of enterprise-level educational technology services. He leads and oversees several teams including educational technologists, platform administrators, and instructional designers in the educational technology organization.
More recently, Perez, a member of Boston University’s Remote and Online Working Group—one of five working groups established by the University’s COVID-19 Recovery Plan—helped lead the BU’s efforts to implement the Learn from Anywhere (LfA) modality.
Perez holds a M.S. in Adult, Occupational and Continuing Education and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Kansas State University. In addition, he contributed to the Educause 2020 Top 10 IT Issues, specifically the Sustainable Funding, Student-centric Higher Education and Higher Education Affordability issues.
