BU Computer Science Hosts WASP PhD Scholars from Sweden
On September 22, the Department of Computer Science welcomed approximately 40 PhD student scholars and faculty from the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), the largest individual research program in Sweden. Funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, WASP brings together researchers from six leading Swedish universities, including KTH, Chalmers, and Lund, and runs a national graduate school that offers its students specialized coursework, international opportunities, and a broad professional network. The visit, hosted by Professor Vasiliki Kalavri, gave the delegation an inside look at research across BU CS and a chance to connect with faculty and PhD students working on related problems in AI, autonomous systems, and software.
The visit opened with research presentations by Professors Boqing Gong and Deepti Ghadiyaram and their students. Professor Renato Mancuso and his team then led a live demonstration of their autonomous racing platform, followed by student presentations and a tour of Professor Sabrina Neuman’s robotics lab. The program continued with tours and presentations from the Computer Graphics & HCI Lab, led by Professors Emily Whiting, Chang Xiao, and Edward Chien. The visit sparked lively conversations between the two research communities and we look forward to future exchanges and collaborations with WASP.
