Visit the Capitoline “Brutus” at the MFA
Don’t miss your chance to see one of the icons of Roman art on view in the MFA’s Roman Art Gallery only through May 1. The Capitoline “Brutus,” a world-famous bronze portrait of a Roman statesman is on loan from the Palazzo dei Conservatori/Capitoline Museum, Rome, for just a short time.

James Uden Receives Peter Paul Professorship
Professor Uden is one of four recipients of the 2012 Peter Paul Professorship, an award established for the career development of new faculty. This award will further Professor Uden’s current project—a book about the Roman satirical poet Juvenal.
Classics Major a CAS Summer Research Scholar
Emily Mohr, an ancient Greek and Latin major, is a 2011 CAS Summer Research Scholar. Emily’s research is on Gender Distinction in the Religious Traditions of the Roman Empire and her mentor is Professor Varhelyi.
James Uden joins the Department
James Uden joins the department as Assistant Professor of Classical Studies. Professor Uden completed his dissertation on Juvenalian satire at Columbia University in 2011. This fall, he will teach an undergraduate Latin seminar (CAS CL 351) on Roman Satire and a graduate Latin seminar (GRS CL 720) on Juvenal.

Samons Announced as New NEH Distinguished Teaching Fellow
Jay Samons has received the Distinguished Teaching Fellowship (DTP) from The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Jeffrey Henderson elected to AAAS
Jeffrey Henderson, the University’s William Goodwin Aurelio Professor of Greek Language and Literature and a world-renowned classics scholar, has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS).

Annual Aristophanes Reading
We invite you to the annual Aristophanes Reading on Friday, April 8, 2011 in STO B50 (685 Commonwealth Avenue, Room B50). The fun starts at 5:00pm with pizza, 5:30 p.m. the Fish Worship Blues Band, and 6:00pm Aristophanes’ The Wasps. See faculty and students perform an ancient play in costumes of quite questionable historicity!
