CIMS Students Studying Abroad: Summer 2024
Many of our students studied film and interned abroad this summer. Read about Wendy Morera’s experience in Sydney:
This past summer, Wendy Morera traveled to Sydney, Australia with BU Study Abroad to take part in the internship and Sydney Film Festival track. The eight-week program began just as the 71st annual Sydney Film Festival started its run throughout various theatres within the city. Alongside taking a course focused on the history of Australian cinema, Wendy and her peers were able to see all competing films, as well as the opening and closing night films at the beloved State Theatre. Some of her favorite films that she saw during the festival were Dying (2024, dir. Matthias Glasner), and The Substance (2024, dir. Coralie Fargeat).
After the festival concluded, Wendy began at Spectrum Films as a Post-Production Assistant Intern for the remaining five weeks of her summer term abroad. Throughout her time at Spectrum, she learned about and observe the different roles within a professional post-production studio. With an interest in audio engineering, she shadowed multiple of the team’s talented and experienced sound engineers and mixers. Wendy enjoyed her time learning at Spectrum, and was grateful for the welcoming environment her co-workers and mentors created during her time there.
Some of her other favorite memories in Sydney were visiting Bondi Beach, hiking at the Blue Mountains, and seeing the Sydney Opera House on a harbour cruise during orientation week.
