Studied composition with Ross Bauer, Andrew Frank, Yehudi Wyner, Martin Boykan, and David Rakowski; theory and analysis with Richard Swift, Martin Boykan, and Allan Keiler.

In recognition of his compositional work, Dr. Weigt has been awarded the Goddard Lieberson Fellowship of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and residencies at the MacDowell Colony and the Wellesley Composers Conference. His compositions are published by the Association for the Promotion of New Music (APNM). His areas of scholarly interest include analysis, popular music, and the intersections of music cognition, aesthetics and theory.

Dr. Weigt is also active as a solo pianist, accompanist, and ensemble performer, and can be heard on Centaur Records.
