Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Theatre presents the world premiere of “Patterns of Wind”
November 22, 2021 | Boston, MA – Boston University College of Fine Arts (CFA) School of Theatre presents a new devised work in Boston University’s Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre. Interweaving Indigenous oral storytelling traditions and contemporary multimedia performance, Patterns of Wind is a part of Boston University Arts Initiative’s Indigenous Voices in the Americas series. This interdisciplinary program series highlights the artistic voices of Indigenous people from both North and South America, running through the 2021/2022 academic year.
This convergence of stories of lineage, legacy, and land was conceived and facilitated by School of Theatre resident guest artist Ty Defoe, who is an actor, writer, and interdisciplinary artist of the Ojibwe and Oneida Nations, along with multimedia artist, filmmaker, and organizer Katherine Freer.
The semester-long residency, culminating in a series of performances in Booth Theatre, invites student performers to deepen their own understanding of their relationship to lineage and migration through embodied techniques and Decolonial practice. Drawing from personal narrative and blood memory, the ensemble devised an experience that uplifts the interconnectedness of all living things. Patterns of Wind’s world premiere will take place December 2 – 5, 2021.
