The heartbeat of the University
The Boston University Bands program is dedicated to providing enjoyable, meaningful music-making opportunities through ensembles open to all students of every major. Bands and ensembles include Athletic Bands, Concert Ensembles, Jazz Ensembles, and Chorus.
BU Bands performs for more than 200,000 people at over 150 events each year. In addition to performances on campus, some ensembles travel often for shows, competitions, tournaments, and concerts.
BU Pep Band Performs at the Friendship Four Tournament in Belfast
The BU Pep Band made history of its own, traveling overseas with the BU Men’s Hockey team for the first time and bringing the music and spirit that define BU hockey games. Known for pumping up crowds at Agganis Arena, the band brought that same energy to the SSE Arena, home of the professional ice hockey team Belfast Giants.
BU Bands represents Boston University wherever we go. Whenever we’re wearing the jackets and uniforms, we’re a member of the band, no matter if we’re in Belfast, Sioux Falls, or our home rink. Just as art decorates space, we, as a pep band, decorate time. Whether it was cheering for our team or blasting “Shipping Up to Boston,” we brought something truly magical to SSE Arena. I could not be prouder to be a part of this band.

BU Student Performers Part of Historic Inauguration Week
With on- and off-campus performances—from jazz to color guard—Terriers added a festive note to the weeklong celebration of BU President Melissa L. Gilliam’s inauguration. “It’s always crazy to me, as a STEM major, to be a part of a band built up of people from all different majors and backgrounds [that] puts on amazing productions like this,” said Christine Fielding (CAS’25).
