Kerry Renzoni

Kerry B. Renzoni is a lecturer in music education. Prior to coming to BU, Dr. Renzoni was an associate professor of music and music department chair at Buffalo State University. There, she taught undergraduate courses in music education and technology, and graduate courses in early childhood, curriculum and assessment, and contemporary practices in music education. Dr. Renzoni also co-lead the International Professional Development Schools (IPDS) Italy programs and served as founder and director of the Early Childhood Music and Movement Program at Buffalo State.

Dr. Renzoni is committed to helping make young children’s musical contributions visible and audible. Her teaching and research interests include the role of environment, creativity, improvisation, and play in young children’s music learning, and interdisciplinary and project-based curricular design. She has served as Online Editor for the International Journal of Music in Early Childhood, Vice President of Professional Development and Vice President of Convention for the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association, Eastern Representative for the National Association for Music Education Early Childhood Special Research Interest Group, and Editorial Review Board Member for Research and Issues in Music Education (RIME) Journal. Dr. Renzoni is published through Routledge, Information Age Publishing, Rowman & Littlefield, the International Journal of Music in Early Childhood, Teaching Young Children, and Perspectives Journal. She is co-editor of the book The First-Year Music Major: Strategies for Success.

Dr. Renzoni received a Ph.D. in music education from Temple University, where she was awarded a University Fellowship and the Presser Music Award. She holds a B.M. in both harp performance and music education and an M.M. in music education from the Eastman School of Music. For six years, Dr. Renzoni taught pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade music in the Western New York area where she prioritized creativity and improvisation in music curricula. Additionally, she has taught early childhood music classes at Temple University Prep, the Eastman Community Music School Community Division, and Buffalo State University Community Arts Academy.
