Jana Silver
Art Education Field Work Coordinator
Jana Silver holds a Doctorate in Teacher Education and an MFA in Ceramics. Prior to working at BU as the Field Work Coordinator in Art Education, she was the founder of the Art Education Program at Hampshire College where she taught for 17 years while simultaneously being the Art Licensure Program Supervisor at Mount Holyoke College and Hampshire Colleges joint licensure program. Dr. Silver taught both studio and art education courses at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where she obtained her MFA and Doctorate degrees. More recently she taught art education at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Her courses throughout her career as a teacher educator explore topics and questions in the fields of Art Education, Arts Integration, and Social Justice Education through Art.
Dr. Silver has taught art for over 20 years to children and adults locally and internationally. Her current research interests include using arts integration in higher education as a vehicle for learning across disciplines. She has presented her research at numerous state and national conferences. Her ceramic art is sold and exhibited nationwide, and she has received numerous grants and awards in support of her teaching and research.
