Undergraduate and graduate applicants must be currently enrolled at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university (graduate applicants may also be awaiting notification of admission).

SMART is a one-for-one commitment; for every year of degree funding, the scholar commits to working for a year with the DoD as a civilian employee. Scholarships are awarded for a minimum of 1 year and maximum of 5 years. Scholarship may include: full tuition and education related expenses; stipend paid at a rate of $30,000-$46,000 per year (depending on degree level and may be prorated); summer research internships ranging from 8-12 weeks; health insurance and miscellaneous allowances; employment placement at a DoD faculty upon degree completion. | Scholarship/Fellowship |
