Summer officially arrived on Sunday, but before everyone heads off for the Fourth of July and trips to the beach, we thought we’d take a final look back at spring 2026 as it played out on campus. The 20 images below capture some of the highlights, from the eagerly anticipated arrival of spring, after a winter that dropped more than four feet of snow on Boston, to Boston University’s 153rd Commencement, celebrating the Class of 2026.

Paola Dartigues (CFA’26) works on her thesis project at 808 Comm Ave in preparation for CFA’s School of Visual Arts MFA Thesis Exhibition, March 26. Keeping her company is her dog, Pascual. Dartigues puts goggles on him when she’s working to protect his eyes from the stone dust.

The BU community responded with enthusiasm to the call from their community resource dog Bean (flanked by her pal Sasha, Harvard’s rescue dog) to help the BU Police Department support the University’s food bank by contributing to the Beans for Bean food drive at the GSU April 2. Donors scored a limited edition Bean card and were entered to win a private play date with Bean. Bean’s assistants: Maura Lee (COM’24), communications specialist, Campus Planning & Operations (CP&O) (from left); Keira Grice (COM’28); Kris Covarrubias, director, strategy, marketing, and communications, BU Wellbeing; Morgan Walsh, CP&O communications assistant; Anna-Mariya Kirova (SSW’23, SPH’23), Student Wellbeing assistant director; and Lauren Alzate, CP&O director of communications & engagement.

In celebration of Earth Day 365, Lawford Anderson, CAS professor of Earth and environment, hosted Touch the Past, where students could hold a shooting star, dinosaur bones, and more. At the event, Katherine Guo (CAS’27) (right) poses for a photo with a replica saber-toothed cat skull; Lisa Tornatore (CAS’02), director of BU Sustainability (left), snaps the picture, as Anderson (center) and Dorsa Mohammadi (CAS’27) look on. The original fossil, unearthed from the La Brea Tar Pits in the 1900s, was in Anderson’s office at the University of Southern California before he donated it to a museum. When he left USC, his colleagues gifted him this replica, nicknamed “Smiley,” as a reference to the extinct cat’s genus, Smilodon.

Sophie Wilhelm (GRS’29) (far right) delivers a presentation for the class Pots and Plays, at the Museum of Fine Arts, April 17. For the class, offered through BU’s History of Art & Architecture and Classical Studies departments, students and their professors gather every other week at the museum to investigate ancient Greek vase painting and drama. Each student selects a particular piece of pottery from the museum’s collection to write and present about.

Sally E. Ward (CAS’77, Wheelock’94), assistant director of academic advising at BU’s Questrom School of Business (from left), chats with front desk assistants Connor Sachleben (ENG’28) and Sharon Soeprapto (Questrom’28). Ward says the key to successful advising is building relationships with students.
