The weeklong celebration of the University’s 11th president, Melissa L. Gilliam, was full of joy and solemnity
The inauguration of Melissa L. Gilliam as Boston University’s 11th president on September 27 at Agganis Arena is now one for the history books. The week began with BU Night at Time Out Market, a “block party” for students to meet their new president. Next was a special presentation by some of the University’s top researchers that showcased how they cross disciplinary boundaries in the pursuit of change. Among other events: a gala at the SoWa Power Station, a service of prayer and thanksgiving at Marsh Chapel, community receptions on both the Charles River and medical campuses following the inauguration, and BU Night at Fenway Park, where BU’s new president threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
BU Today photographers were there for all of it, and we’ve put together some of the week’s best photos to commemorate the historic occasion.
