Our list of where to go to indulge in America’s favorite sweet treat
Nothing beats the smell of baking cookies—and nothing tastes as good as a chocolate chip cookie. The sweet treat was first introduced to Americans in the 1930s, when Ruth Wakefield began making and serving them to customers at her Toll House Inn in Whitman, Mass. First known as the Toll House Chocolate Crunch Cookie, they were an instant hit with Wakefield’s customers. Soon people across the country were creating their own versions. Today, a whopping seven billion chocolate chip cookies are consumed annually just in the US.
Today has been designated National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, and to mark the occasion, we’ve put together a list of 10 nearby cafes and bakeries where you can get your chocolate chip cookie fix. Take a look. You’ll be glad you did.
