There are 4 comments on Andrew Bacevich: The United States Is Ignoring 2020’s “Apocalyptic” Wake-up Call

  1. Yes! ‘The theme… is refocusing national security on what he calls the actual threats we’ve ignored, revealed during the “apocalyptic” wake-up call of 2020: underinvestment in pandemic-containing health measures, systemic racism, and climate change.” Can’t argue with that!
Pollution kills roughly 10 million people a year worldwide (yet it gets no where near the drastic action or press coverage that COVID got) and yet the US spends so much money on its military and not innovative new solutions to protect the climate. I’ve never understood this. Thank you Prof Bacevich for highlighting this. Looking forward to reading the book.

  2. When it comes to foreign policy, Prof Bacevich makes more sense than any of the war mongers. Of course, he does hold back by not mentioning the fact that all these wars benefit the very few at the expense of the very many. I recently read that “public servant” and war-monger Donald Rumsfeld was worth 200 million when he died of old age after a lifetime of advocating more government and more war (mass murder). Of course, he never put himself near any danger.

Unfortunately, when it comes to things like “climate change”, “systemic racism”, and “pandemics”, the good professor has swallowed the official narrative hook, line, and sinker.

  3. Having followed Prof. Bacevich’s lectures for more than 50 years as a member of the World Affairs Council of Boston and World Boston, I’ve agreed with him on almost every topic that he has presented, especially with is determination to get the U.S.A. out of NATO which at this time has become a very destructive organization. This was especially true, when it got involved in supporting attacking Serbia supposedly to prevent Serbia from forcing the Albanian out of Kosovo. By not following General Clark’s advice to use close air support to prevent this from happening, President Clinton decided to punish Serbia by devastating Belgrade by a strategic air bombardment that lasted for more than ten weeks when NATO had no authorization to do this since Kosovo was not a member of NATO. In addition, it did nothing to prevent the removal of the Albanians of Kosovo. All it did was to punish Serbia who along with Greece were our only allies during WW II. By continuing their resistance to the German occupation which held up the German invasion of the Soviet Union from April to June of 1941, Belgrade was devastated by the German Air Force and Germany created an independent Croatia and allowed a Croat fascist group to commit genocide against more than 500,000 Serb men, women, and children. And after 50 years we rewarded the Serbs by devastating Belgrade again.
