Although it feels like it just began, summer has come to a close. As we officially kick off fall, we hope that a new wave of optimism starts to set in (🤞 fingers crossed🤞). After all, there’s a lot to love.

Here are seven wholesome reasons to be excited about fall:

1. You can finally wear sweatshirts outside

There’s nothing better than a big sweatshirt on a crisp fall day. Everyone has that favorite sweatshirt they throw on to feel comfy. Whether it’s wearing it to your 8 am class, on an afternoon walk, or grabbing dinner at the GSU, there’s something about it that just feels right.

2. All things pumpkin

There are few things that get us as excited for fall as pumpkins. An obvious staple, these big orange lopsided spheres will get anyone excited for the season. Most important, it’s one of the best foods. Get excited for pumpkin pie, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin bread, and pumpkin spice everything. Then, of course, there’s pumpkin carving and jack-o’-lanterns. We can’t get enough.

3. The weather is supreme

Ah yes, sweater season. A time when it’s not too hot, yet not too cold. Sadly, fall means we’re heading back to another winter, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the picture-perfect weather while it lasts. Make sure you take a walk on the Esplanade or in the Boston Garden during peak foliage. You won’t regret it.

4. Plaid is back

The arrival of fall means plaid has become acceptable once again, so grow out your beard, break out the scarves, and grab your flannel. Not only does plaid look good on everyone, but it’s beyond comfortable. Getting cozy in a warm plaid shirt sounds pretty amazing, doesn’t it?

5. Apple cider

Nothing says fall like a cup of apple cider. Need to warm up? Drink it hot and garnish with a cinnamon stick for spice. Looking to quench your thirst? No problem. Serve it cold for a refreshing seasonal drink. It’s a win-win.

 6. Hot chocolate

If there’s anything you remember fondly about fall, it’s probably hot chocolate. As a child, hot chocolate was a fan-favorite treat. What’s not to like? It’s literally liquid chocolate—and don’t forget the delicious marshmallows. Now as adults, we can drink it whenever our hearts desire. And let’s not forget hot chocolate’s fashionable caffeinated cousin that always seems pop up in late fall. The counterpart to the pumpkin spice latte: peppermint mocha.

7. Leaf piles

Another nostalgic childhood favorite. Jumping into leaf piles was and still is the absolute best. Nothing beats a fresh pile of leaves on a fall day. It warms the heart. Some things are fun for all generations.

With fall officially here, there’s plenty to get excited about. It’s a time to be thankful for all the friends and family members that make everything a little easier. So get ready for the best season of the year. Let’s make it a great one.
