Name: Freshman Kat Ungvary (COM)
Address: A double in Rich Hall. She shares the room with freshman Monica Zielinski (CFA, CAS).
Short bio: Ungvary, who hails from Bronxville, N.Y., is majoring in advertising, with minors in psychology and business. She is a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and is a campus ambassador for Rent the Runway.
Fashion credentials: Besides being a Rent the Runway campus ambassador, Ungvary flexed her fashion know-how as a PR intern for Avon during her senior year of high school. At the end of the internship, the company gifted her a pink journal she treasures and uses daily.
Where she finds inspiration: “Just shopping online or in person helps me piece ideas together, and YouTube dorm tours are great for life-hack ideas I wouldn’t have thought of before.”
Where she shops: Ungvary bought her dorm decor from a variety of places, including IKEA, Amazon, Society6, Target—and even a yard sale.
How much did all of this cost? The embroidered BU-themed pillow from Catstudio cost $192. Ungvary’s mom found it at a local boutique in New York; it can also be purchased on Amazon or directly from Catstudio. But the Breakfast at Tiffany’s poster that hangs above her bed was just $5. She bought the prints on her wall from Society6 for about $20, and the frames, from Amazon, were also $20. “I made sure to get the frames separately. If I had bought the prints framed from Society6 they would have cost me around $70.” The desk cubby was $57 (Amazon); the striped contact paper on her dressers cost $30 (Target); the nine-drawer organizer from IKEA was $160; and the gold animal heads she got for $6 each (Target).
A popular trend she shamelessly follows: “Since the moment I got into BU early decision, I started planning out my dorm,” Ungvary says. She knew she wanted a pink, white, and gray color scheme. “It’s very popular right now, but pink has always been my color.”
Random tips: To more efficiently use her space, Ungvary recommends this hack: she moved the bookshelf that was originally on her desk into her closet for a shoe rack and bought a new desk cubby to store her books, skincare products, and jewelry.
