  1. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend tonight’s event but I would have raised this point:

    The trend in our culture that uplifts and celebrates the disrespectful has clearly contributed to the rise of someone like Donald Trump: People say whatever they want on social media; accepted vocabulary on primetime TV shows would have, in another era, been considered obscene and completely offensive; and we may make a mockery of the office of the presidency by ‘requiring’ candidates to appear on shows like Saturday Night Live, and, when they’re not appearing as themselves, we impersonate them (although I have to say that Alec Baldwin has provided some great entertainment).
