The prediction that a winter storm is expected to dump 8 to 12 inches of snow on Boston has persuaded University officials to close the Charles River Campus on Wednesday. All Wednesday classes on that campus are canceled. The snow, which will be heaviest between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., is expected to taper off in the evening.
Peter Fiedler (COM’77), the University’s vice president for administrative services, says employees in essential services must report as scheduled. Essential services include, but are not limited to, BU Police, Facilities Management & Planning, Dining Services, Mail Services, Student Health Services, Environmental Health & Safety, and the University switchboard.
The Boston University Medical Campus (School of Medicine, Goldman School of Dental Medicine, and School of Public Health) will remain open. Staff should check with their managers regarding work schedules. Medical students who are assigned to inpatient services are expected to be present, if possible. Students who are assigned to outpatient services should check with their course director or the policy at the clinical site. Graduate Medical Sciences (GMS) will follow normal school hours and classes will be held as scheduled unless students are notified otherwise by the course instructor. The Goldman School of Dental Medicine will follow normal school hours. All treatment centers will be open for patient care and all classes will be held as scheduled.
Update: SPH has canceled morning and afternoon classes. Individual instructors may choose to hold class online. A decision regarding evening classes will be posted later today. For updated information, visit the BUMC emergency communications website.
Robert Hudson, director of Mugar Memorial Library, says BU libraries will be closed on Wednesday. The BUS (BU Shuttle) is expected to run on schedule, although weather may cause some delays. Any changes to the BUS schedule will be posted on the BU Shuttle website. Shuttle updates are also available on Twitter at @BUShuttle.
Update: FitRec will be open from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Only informal recreation will be available in the fitness center and on the courts during this time. The pools will be open 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for lap swimming and recreation. All programs, classes, practices, and events will remain canceled for the rest of the day.
All residence dining operations (including Hillel) will open as scheduled, as will the George Sherman Union. The following retail locations will be closed: Breadwinners, Einstein’s, the Law Café, the BU Pub, and Healthy Blends. The Union Court in the GSU will be open at 10 a.m. and the remaining retail locations will open as scheduled. All student organization meetings slated to take place at the GSU will take place as scheduled. All ResLife offices will be open as scheduled.
The women’s basketball game against the Naval Academy will be played as scheduled at 7 p.m. at Case Gym.
