Read full story on NIH Director's BlogAs smartphones get smarter, people find new ways to put them to work. One of the most promising new uses has been devised by Boston University Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering Ed Damiano, who has programmed an iPhone to continuously determine the precise doses of hormones required to stabilize the fluctuating glucose levels of people with type 1 diabetes. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), writes about Damiano’s bionic pancreas in his NIH Director’s Blog.
