Boston’s Top Chefs Serve Up Their Best
Fork Lift Food Fest offers food, demos, more

If you’re hungry for fare from some of the city’s most renowned chefs, head over to City Hall Plaza today for the Fork Lift Food Fest. The festival is part of Outside the Box, the inaugural free performing arts festival conceived by Boston businessman and philanthropist Ted Cutler, which runs through July 21. At Fork Lift, you can watch pop-up food demonstrations while sampling small plates from many of Boston’s best eateries.
The Fork Lift Food Fest also features book signings by celebrity chefs. Among the 11 chefs participating are Jody Adams, of Rialto, Gordon Hamersley (CGS’71, SED’74), of Hamersley’s Bistro, Michael Schlow, of Tico, and Todd English, of Olives. And for those 21 and over, there’s a wine and beer pavilion on hand as well.
This festival within a festival is the perfect spot to grab a bite while enjoying the diverse variety of music, dance, and theater performances that comprise Outside the Box. The goal of the arts festival, which kicked off July 13 and features more than 200 performances and events, is to make the arts accessible to everyone. Outside the Box and the Fork Lift Food Fest run through July 21. The food festival is open Thursday, July 18, to Saturday, July 20, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, July 21, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the food fest, held at City Hall Plaza, is free, but tasting tickets must be purchased at the individual restaurant tasting stations. By public transportation, take any MBTA Green Line trolley to Government Center.
