Annual Casino Night features games, student performances, and food
It’s bigger, it’s better—it’s the 14th annual Casino Night, a BU fundraiser that supports local charities. Come enjoy an evening of free food, entertainment from student groups, your favorite casino games, and a 21+ cash bar.
This year’s event, which takes place tonight, will feature more gaming tables than last year, including poker, blackjack, roulette, and high/low dice roll. There are more prizes this year as well, including Red Sox tickets, gift cards to restaurants such as Mooo and Anthony’s Home Port, and a waiver for $1,500 worth of real estate fees at a local agency.
The BU a cappella groups Chordially Yours, K-Soul, and Treblemakers and hip-hop dance troupe Fusion will perform at the event.
Food is being provided by Boston University’s Catering on the Charles, and students from the School of Hospitality Administration are making and serving gourmet desserts, offering hands-on catering experience to SHA students.
“The School of Hospitality Administration is running a crash course in baking,” says event chair Taylor Riley (SMG’11).
Proceeds from this year’s Casino Night will go towards the Terrace Arts Project, in Roxbury, which helps engage youth through art, and Charity Water, a nonprofit that brings clean drinking water to developing countries.
“Terrace Arts Project was brought to us by an alum of SMG who is on the board of the charity,” says Riley, “and as a thank you for working with the charity, he is helping us with logistics for the event.”
Last year, $5,000 raised by Casino Night was donated to the Ballard Boys and Girls Club. This year organizers are hoping to raise $8,000 to $10,000.
The event is hosted by the student governments of the School of Management, the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Hospitality Administration, the College of General Studies, and Sargent College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences.
Casino Night will be held tonight, January 28, from 8 p.m. to midnight in the George Sherman Union’s Metcalf Ballroom, 775 Commonwealth Ave. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased in the SMG Atrium, the GSU Link, the Activities Desk on the second floor of the GSU, and outside of the Warren Towers dining hall.
