This Weekend, Get Down2Earth
Sussing out renewable energy, green collar jobs, and a waterless carwash

The Down2Earth sustainable living expo gets under way tonight at Boston’s Hynes Convention Center. Those attending the three-day expo can look forward to forums that range from renewable energy to green jobs and exhibits that connect consumers with companies investing in the environment.
Douglas Zook, an associate professor of science education and global ecology in the School of Education, says that creating a world where human beings are more compatible with the Earth requires not only intellectual vision, but specific examples.
“Becoming ecosustainable must be presented as practical and connected to many parts of our daily life,” says Zook. “I see D2E as an important educational event.”
The expo will showcase exhibits such as ANT custom-made bicycles for commuting and urban riding, solar power businesses like Repower Home and Green Clean Mobile, and a waterless car wash company whose employees will bike, walk, or take the T to your car and clean it with environmentally safe cleaning supplies. Another exhibitor is Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.
Among the more unusual exhibits: a fashion show with ecofriendly clothing, reusable cloth gift wrap from Lagniappe, and handbags made from recycled soda can tabs by Jute and Jackfruit.
Down2Earth is at the Hynes Convention Center, 900 Boylston St., Boston, on Friday, April 3, from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday, April 4, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors ($5 online); tickets can be purchased at the door or discounted online after filling out a short survey.
