BU honors the life of Allan Macurdy, former director of disability services, on Wednesday, March 18

The Boston University community will honor the life of Allan Macurdy, the former director of disability services and a visiting associate professor in the School of Law, with a memorial service on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 5:30 p.m. in the George Sherman Union Small Ballroom.
Macurdy (CAS’84, LAW’86) passed away last June after a courageous and lengthy battle with muscular dystrophy. He had led the University’s Office of Disability Services since 1996 and was well known both locally and nationally for his advocacy efforts for disability rights. He was a published scholar in the areas of constitutional law, civil rights, and law and disability. Civically minded, Macurdy was a founding board member of Partners for Youth with Disabilities, a board member of the Franciscan Children’s Hospital, and a past president and board member of the Disability Law Center Boston.
To honor Macurdy’s memory, a fund has been set up through the University. Donations can be sent to the Allan H. Macurdy Memorial Fund, Boston University, One Sherborn Street, Boston, MA 02215.
