Farm Fresh on Campus
BU’s Farmers Market returns to GSU Plaza today

There’s nothing like a tomato fresh off the vine. The combination of powerful flavor and vibrant color evokes the farm where it was grown, making every bite a picturesque adventure.
Sponsored by BU Dining Services, the BU Farmers Market returns to campus this afternoon after eight long, dreary winter months. Featuring locally grown and produced goods from Lanni Orchards in Lunenburg, Gold Meadow Farms in Rhode Island, and Big Sky Bakery in Brookline, plus market-day specials inside the GSU, the market is a seasonal favorite.
What’s so special about locally grown produce, you ask? It’s fresher, for starters, and usually healthier — for you and for the environment, because farmers growing on a local scale can use fewer pesticides (and less gas to truck produce to faraway markets). What’s more, when you buy locally, you’re directly supporting the small producers in your community.
Come to the GSU Plaza every Thursday afternoon this summer and into the fall and support local farmers, small businesses, and craftspeople and at the same time enjoy some fresh, simple goodness. The Farmers Market is scheduled for Thursdays at 775 Commonwealth Ave., from noon to 4 p.m., until October 29. This week’s participants include Urban Kitchen, from Boston, and the Cozy Tea Cart, from New Hampshire, and to cart home all those delicious fruits and veggies, shopping bags made from recycled materials by F Rock, from Boston.
