  1. Does the Market have anything to do with the Farm to School program? I don’t see BU on the current list of local colleges and universities preferentially buying local foods. http://www.mass.gov/agr/markets/Farm_to_school/schools_purchasing_local.pdf. It would be nice to know if BU has any involvement with Farm to School or if it has any plans to.

The Farmers Market may be a good resource for the small fraction of the BU community with an understanding of the benefits of buying local foods, and the wherewithal to do so. However, in the grand scheme of what BU could be doing to support community agriculture the Farmers Market is a token gesture. It is a small step in the right direction. It would be better to hear about more systemic measures undertaken by BU (are there any?) to both support local food ways and to promote healthy eating.

  2. Surprisingly, they’re doing a lot more than you would think to support local food because of the Dining Hall Sustainability Director Kelly Dunn. But obviously, still not nearly enough.
