Lacrosse Players Make the Cut
Four BU women’s lacrosse players will try out in August for the national team
Four Boston University women’s lacrosse players could be heading to the 2009 International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse Associations World Cup in Prague next summer.
After the athletes competing for the U.S. Lacrosse Women’s National Team was cut from 220 to 83, Sarah Dalton (CGS’07, CAS’09), Kelly Munroe (COM’09), and Traci Landy (SED’10), as well as Lindsay Lewis (CGS’04, SHA’07), were chosen for the second round of tryouts.
Dalton, a midfielder from Cornwall, Vt., and Landy, an attacker from Seaford, N.Y., helped the Terriers last season with big offensive numbers. Landy scored 56 points, while Dalton, scoring 84 points, ended the year with 71 goals.
Landy says she has “never been on a team that takes so much pride in the notion of never settling.” She is excited about having a chance to try out for the national team.
“I tried out last year,” she says, “not making it to this point, but I got a really good feel and the experience of playing with some of the nation’s best players. I look forward to doing the same this year at the tryout. Playing with the best only makes you a better player. I’m honored to be considered for this tryout.”
Landy, who is recovering from an injury, says that while her rehab for her ankle and shin is most important in preparing for the tryouts, she is also keeping up with her stick work and shooting in her spare time.
Munroe, a defender from Westwood, Mass., was honored with the Most Outstanding Player award at last year’s America East Tournament. She recovered 31 ground balls and caused 27 turnovers during the regular season.
Lewis played for BU from 2003 through 2006 and is ranked fourth all-time in career points, with 232, and first in goals, with 187. She helped her team reach the NCAA quarterfinals in one of the Terriers’ best seasons in history (18-2).
The tryouts will take place August 1 to 3 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
