Martin Blake (CFA’09) derives inspiration from childhood for his works — finding energy and color from memories of elementary school life.
In his painting The Last Supper, bright colors and broad shapes are split by horizontal bars, which dominate the 60-inch-by-58-inch canvas.
"In this painting, I’m simply trying to capture a kind of vitality that reminds me of being a kid. There’s nothing solid, and nothing is really being represented. It’s more about a feeling," says Blake. "Sometimes I look at something and can’t help but be inspired — not necessarily to paint or compose or write something, but just to live. I guess that’s what I think about in all my paintings."
