Ties to Ireland
William Shannon, former U.S. ambassador to Ireland, was a BU professor in three programs.

William Shannon (Hon.’76), who taught at CAS, UNI, and COM, was U.S. ambassador to Ireland from 1977 to 1981. He died in 1988. The William V. Shannon Memorial Fellowships were instituted in his memory and provide scholarships for Irish citizens to pursue graduate study at BU.
