Adam Pascal wows BU Central

A decade after Rent opened on Broadway, it still has the power to enthrall. Just ask any of the 400-plus students and guests who waited in line to see Adam Pascal — one of the play’s original cast members — perform at BU Central on Friday, March 31. Click here to watch a video clip from the event (3:10).

Pascal, a native New Yorker, played with heavy metal bands around the city before he won the part of rock ’n’ roll bad boy Roger in Rent. The play, which opened on Broadway in February 1996, won the Pulitzer Prize for drama and Tony Awards for best musical, best book, and best score and has spawned countless “Rent-heads,” many of whom have seen the show dozens of times.

After touring with Rent, Pascal performed in the Broadway productions of Aida and Cabaret and has released two solo albums: 2000’s Model Prisoner and 2004’s Civilian. Last year he reprised his role as Roger in the movie version of Rent.

Pascal performed both original material and Broadway favorites at BU Central and stayed to meet fans and sign autographs after the show. “It was mind-blowing,” says Philip Keegan (ENG’08), who waited in line all afternoon with his girlfriend. “Better than anything I’ve seen in a long time.”
