Prof. Knott featured in this months National Geographic

BU Anthropology’s Cheryl Knott is featured in this month’s National Geographic magazine!

From Christopher Schmitt:

The article focuses on Gunung Palung, the Park in Indonesia where she has been the principal investigator for the past 30 years. The piece frames her conservation work to save the orangutans and the rainforest (through partnering with local people surrounding the park) as one of the principal reasons this “Wild Green Heart” in Borneo has remained a refuge for orangutans and other endangered species.
Incidentally, the story was also photographed by Cheryl’s husband, award winning wildlife photographer Tim Laman. Their son, Russell Laman (BU Marine Science/ Biology- Conservation and Ecology graduate in 2022), also assisted on the project, and has the credit for the image on the opening spread, a fantastic shot of an orangutan feeding high in the rainforest canopy that Russell shot from a drone.
