Shelley M. Brown

Scholarly and Practice Interests

• The study of key linkages between health, human development and human security;  larger themes of health equity, social determinants of health, health systems and women’s health, with a focus on vulnerable or marginalize populations.
• Research projects include the intersection of mental health and post-release adjustment in formerly incarcerated women with HIV in the US South, health system responses to intimate partner violence in South Africa, translation of evidence-based policy into practice in low and middle income countries and provision of human-rights based mental health services in vulnerable populations with a regional focus on South Africa.
