Language Program & FLAS
Over one billion people live in Africa. It’s the second-largest and second-most-populous continent on the planet and makes up 20% of the total landmass on earth. Across the board, Africa countries are rising players in world politics, economics, global health, environmental studies, international relations, and business. So, why wouldn’t you want to take an African language?!
The African Studies Center is one of the oldest and best-regarded centers of its kind in the US, and language study is a central pillar. Our instructors are native speakers, and their diverse teaching methods develop and strengthen oral and written language skills to prepare you for in-country research or work post-graduation. Many of our students choose to apply for the Foreign Language & Area Studies Program (FLAS) which enables the ASC to fund select undergraduate and graduate students who commit to both language and regional studies.
