Originally trained as a medical doctor, worked in the Ministry of Health in Zimbabwe for 18 years at all levels, during which time undertook postgraduate Masters and Doctoral studies in England on Community Health for Developing countries and on Comparative Health Systems & Policy Analysis. Worked for six years as a Boston based consultant establishing the International Network for the Rational Use of Drugs (INRUD) consulting, teaching and writing. Moved to Boston University School of Public Health teaching, researching and consulting mostly on Pharmaceutical Policy Issues. Worked at WHO (2003-2013), Geneva on Pharmaceutical Policy Issues focusing on Pharmaceutical Innovation, Access and Pricing and integration of National Medicine Policies into National Health Policies. Since 2014 working at Boston University School of Public Health as a Professor of Global Health teaching primarily on the Pharmaceuticals track and as an Extraordinary Professor at University of Western Cape School of Public Health working on developing materials, short course and distance learning courses related to pharmaceutical management. Undertaking research on Access to Insulin and evaluation of industry initiated activities related to access to medicines for Non Communicable Diseases.
