Lukę Głowacki studies the evolution of complex social behavior. His research focuses on understanding the origins of human cooperation and prosociality, as well as the causes of violence and warfare. To do so, he uses methods from evolutionary biology, network science, social psychology, and anthropology.
He has done extensive fieldwork among nomadic pastoralists along the Ethiopian and South Sudanese border studying inter-ethnic violence. His research has been published in leading journals including Science, Current Biology, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. In addition to having written for the New Times, Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times, Dr. Głowacki’s research is often covered by prominent publications such as The Atlantic, the BBC, and the Wall Street Journal. In 2019, he co-founded the Omo Valley Research Project, a non-profit advancing scientific research and philanthropy Ethoipia’s Omo Valley. He continues to conduct and direct fieldwork with southwest Ethiopia.
