Lennora-Muti’ah Pierrot
Manager of the Special Collections of the Tuskegee University Library Systems
As a native of St. Lucia with an ambitious mother coupled with an innovative father, Lennora Muti’ah Pierrot has always seen opportunity and been surrounded by service at an early age. Pierrot was raised in a rural area of St. Lucia, in the town of Bexon. Her grandparents were farmers and business owners, which instilled in me a hard work-ethic. Coming to America at the age of 6 with a strong agriculture background helped catalyze Pierrot’s current role as Manager of the Special Collections at The Ford Motor Company Library/LRC at Tuskegee University, after being in this role for just one year.
Becoming muslim at age of 19 was Pierrot’s introduction to the vastness of Africa as a continent. During the completion of Hajj, the pilgrimage at the Kaaba in Madina, Saudia Arabia, she got the opportunity to visit and live in two countries in Africa. She studied Midwifery in Senegal and South Africa, specifically in the cities of Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria. Pierrot immediately realized her need for continued education and professional development, both of which are vital in increasing her ability to perform her duties and responsibilities effectively, efficiently, and concisely. The lifelong learning skills and knowledge that she has gained throughout her didactic progression continues to be the motivating factor for her to become proficient in this field of preserving history, which is the legacy of Tuskegee University.
Given the breadth of African history and African-American culture, there are plenty of areas from which she would choose to study on a deeper level. Women’s issues in contemporary Africa, along the political, economic, and social effects of slavery within the West Indies and the United States are the areas Pierrot would like to explore to highlight the connections between Africa and the rest of the world.
