Huguette Vetiac
ESL Interventionist, Henry Grew School

Huguette Vetiac is currently working as a Multilingual SLIFE teacher with Boston Public Schools. Her students are newly immigrated high school-aged students, who have overcome countless challenges in order to be able to come to the United States. Their passion for learning continues to encourage her to be the best version of herself.
Like the military adage, “the toughest job you’ll ever love”, every second spent lesson-planning and writing individual learning plans for each student, pale in comparison to the relationships she has developed with each student, making every second worth it. What’s more, hearing them go from not speaking any English to becoming fluent in the matter of (2-3) years, is the greatest gift of all!
Thus, her interest in the Teaching Africa Teacher Certificate Program is motivated by the desire to see Boston Public Schools include pre-colonial African history in its curriculum and not just that of slavery. Huguette is also inspired by the strong need to discover more details about her ancestral origins. She believes that being aware of her cultural background will help her develop a stronger sense of her core identity.
