Holly Liebl

Social Studies Teacher, Quakertown Community Senior High School

Holly Liebl is a Social Studies teacher at Quakertown Community Senior High School. She is entering her 18th year and currently teaches World History to sophomores at all levels.

Holly earned her B.A. in History from DeSales University. In 2018-19, she went on sabbatical to the United Kingdom and studied abroad at the University of Birmingham, UK to achieve her MSc in Poverty, Inequality and Development in the International Development program. Over 50 countries were represented in this program, which provided incredible insights from individuals who came from all walks of life. She is currently working on her PhD in International Development at the same institution focusing on social control mechanisms in urban spaces of the Kathmandu Valley; she anticipates conducting fieldwork in Nepal in the summer of 2023.

As a three-time Fulbright-Hays Scholar, Holly’s first experience in Africa occurred back in 2008, traveling to Lesotho and South Africa, focusing specifically on the relationship of both countries and sustainability concerns of present and future communities. Just this past summer, Holly embarked to Morocco and was immersed in various communities, learning more about the successes and challenges of the Moroccan education systems.

In past and present curricula, Africa has been a strong focal point and various experiences/learning opportunities continue to shape the dialogues and studies for Holly’s sophomore students. She is thrilled to be a part of the Teaching Africa Certification program as it offers so many new seminars, materials and collaborations with fellow teachers across the country. She is looking forward to enriching her understandings of the African continent and learning new ways of teaching African topics to her students and colleagues. Although specific areas of interest are colonialism and current events, she is looking forward to learning more about Africa’s histories and diverse communities.
