Since 2009, Elizabeth has worked on and led archaeological projects in Nigeria (the Owu Project, the Old Oyo Project, and the Igbo Ukwu Project), Qatar, Papua New Guinea, Turkey, and Italy. Her work explores the intersection of crafts production, ancient economies, and social organization particularly the bi-directional relationship between craft economies and sociopolitical structures. She is also interested in the preservation and presentation of heritage materials with a focus on sustainable and community-oriented approaches to heritage management. Presently, her work focuses on ancient Igbo Ukwu one of the prominent archaeological sites in West Africa where she investigates the social organization and the structure of crafts economy in the ancient society. At Igbo Ukwu, her work also explores how production was organized, who participated in it, and the role of local crafts systems in broader networks of trade and cultural exchanges in ancient West African societies.
