Lisa-Brit Wahlberg

World History, Political Science, Psychology Teacher/History Department Chair, Miss Porter’s School

Lisa-Brit Wahlberg teaches world history, political science, and psychology at Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, CT. She has been teaching high school students for 15 years and previously worked in private practice specializing in adolescent mental health. She currently serves as Department Chair of the History Department and seeks to develop her expertise on African studies as well as those of the history faculty.

Lisa-Brit earned a B.A. in Slavic and Eastern European Studies from The University of Connecticut and an M.A.T. from University of Saint Joseph’s. She is also an adjunct professor at University of Connecticut, teaching International Relations for dual enrollment.

As History Department Chair, she seeks to expand her expertise on African studies as well as those on the history faculty at her school. She decided to pursue the Teaching Africa Teacher certificate in response to student feedback, which suggested more emphasis on the African medieval kingdoms as well as on the role of modern African nations on the international stage. As her school works to “decolonize” their curriculum, expanding the curricular lens to include a non-European perspective will deepen understanding of the African continent and more inclusively represent the ethnic identities of her students.
