Ariana Sanders
High School Social Studies Teacher
Ariana Sanders is a high school social studies teacher in the Greater Cincinnati area. After teaching a variety of courses from AP European History to Economics, she has found her passion teaching Modern World History and an African American Cultures elective. Ariana loves working and learning about social justice, LGBTQ+ students, and education technology. She tries to incorporate that into her classroom more and more each year. Currently, Ariana is on a committee in Ohio to create learning standards and curriculum for a Religion, Gender, and Ethnic Studies class. The goal for this project is that it is added as an official course offering in the Ohio Social Studies program.
Ariana joined TAT to enrich her teaching and learning for students. She hopes to add more curriculum to her world history class that decentralizes the Western focus of the course and enriches the content and learning opportunities in African American Cultures. She is especially interested in African traditions, culture, decolonization, and activism.
For the TAT, Ariana traveled to Ghana and developed a unit on W.E.B. DuBois’ life and relationship to Ghana, as told through three primary sources. Access the curriculum here.
